The Great Work and Astrology? Empty
PostSubject: The Great Work and Astrology?   The Great Work and Astrology? Icon_minitimeSun Nov 04, 2012 2:53 pm

I was wondering if anyone here knows anything about the correct time to commence The Great Work according to the stars etc. I do not know very much about astrology, it is one of the only areas of occultism I am not studied on. I see that May and spring time in general is significant in the paths Nick describes in his books. I always wondered if the astronimical aspect of making the stone was just one of the many ways that the alchemists of old complicated things and detured the uninitiated. By imposing, often not talked about, timing/astronimical accuracy on The Great Work, it is just another hold up/deterrent in actually attempting it yourself.

Than on the other hand, astronomy is obviously an important factor in all systems of magick, hermeticism, cosmology, etc. And many alchemists speak of the neccisity of aligning your Work within the proper times/moon phases, etc. Except they never mention these correct times. The closest is the paths in Nick's books, which most are supposed to commence in the spring/first rainfall/ thunder storm of the spring/ new year.

Does anyone know where you can learn about the use of astrology in The Great Work. I am beginning to think that it is important, and may be responsible for some failurs among us laboratory alchemists. The planets greatly affect us, especially in health/disease, and Paracelsus used astrology and the planets in his alchemical and magical workings, as did many other alchemists, philosophers, magicians, etc.

As anyone who knows anything about astrology can tell by my words, I know very little about astrology. Does anyone here know any good sources, or have any advice regarding learning about astrology, specifically the right/best times to commence The Great Work, as well as other magical operations.

Question

Either way, I think timing is something we must consider in the making of the Stone/Elixir.

paracelsus777,

A good book that deals with celestial influence is " The Way of the Crucible" by Robert Allen Bartlett.
You should find this helpful.

P.S.
For all. Here are a couple links that will be very helpful to view various allignments. The first link has a free program you can load to you PC or laptop.

Traditionally, spring and autumn but like volpierre states anytime you feel the calling is the right time. I think trusting your gut is the best.

I found this interesting site a while back:

Start times and overall cycles:
http://www.risingstarmusic.com/alchemyastrology/labnotes.html

Best days of the month to do a lab process:
http://www.risingstarmusic.com/alchemyastrology/laboratory.html

Famous transmutation dates:
http://www.risingstarmusic.com/alchemyastrology/goldmaking.html

This guy is more of a spagyrics guy and admittedly doesn't work with metals but is part of the "frat pack", all the guys who worked with Albertus like Bartlet. He is very much into the microb theory which explains some things but not projection. I like that he follows sidereal as some other scientists have noted enhanced effects at that time.

If you have the time, I would line it up. I have seen the affect on precipitating oils and how the moon phase and sidereal time can affect the rate and production of various chemical operations.

Divine Archana talks about lining up days of the week, so on Saturday you would work with lead, Sunday gold, etc. That is an easy way to start and get in the mind set.

Find something that works and i would adjust "all things considered equal"...I would not make it a prevention to do things, a block, or something that stops you from doing lab work (we have enough of that). I think it is best to look at it more of a way to optimize things. Key things like projection are worth the time to optimize.

Astrology is paramaount in alchemy as well as Kabalah. The great work should be done in according to stellar and planetary influences. I suggest geting a book called alchemy and astrology
by tim wilkerson http://www.alchemyastrology.com/

The same experiment may work one day and not the other, especially transmutations, Paracelsus has a section on this. (aspects of asteroid Vulcan should be carefully looked at).
Download chronos XP which will give u the exact planetary hour of the day.
Planets rule days of the week. Ex- Sunday- gold (good to work with this metal) Mon - Moon (silver). Tue - mars(iron) Wed. Mercury (distillations) Thu-jupiter - tin, bronze, Fri - Venus-copper. sat - saturn-lead.
Astrology is the law of God - your whole life is written down in your natal chart. Pluto and Neptune have to do a lot with alchemy (you are blessed if u have a good aspect between them - trine sextile), while metallic alchemy is ruled by mars. (Dubuis had Mars in Scorpio - very strong). Study - there are a lot of books online - I can recommend some. In the begining its overwhelming but then u start understanding the Universe better.

I just saw that Merc posted almost the same recommendation as I. I have Tims book and its very interesting. He prefers sideral (hindu) astrollogy which follows the stellar zodiac (subtract 23.3 from tropical). Nice book to start with is Lilly[s Christian Astrollogy vol. 1 and 2. Good Luck

Aspects and positions of Sun, Moon, Mercury and Vulcan (inner fire - higher octave of Mars) seem to be the deterning factors according to Albertus in potpourri alquimia. try to have vulcan in a fire sign (aries, saggitarius, leo) with good aspects to other planets.
Hour of Mars as I am writing this rsrs.

anyone sen Baron Munchausen?
