Graphite Crucible Type

So I've settled on using graphite crucibles. I found some nice ones with fitting lids. I'm going to try that first, failing that I'll use the kaowool as a seal.

Now my question is, what type of graphite is best to use? Very frustrating how vague a lot of these sellers are with their products, they dont' even seem to know what they're selling themselves.

I see Merc had some photos of salt sweating through his graphite? (Due to the wrong type maybe, too porous?)

I have two types of crucibles. One type of graphite is very much like pencil lead. It easily rubs off onto the fingers and seems rough and porous.

The other type is very smooth and hard, does not rub off easily at all. I'm guessing the light, smooth one is the clay bonded?

Any thoughts on which type of graphite to use? Last thing I need is for my precious quantity of salt to be wasted in an instant because of an easily avoidable situation.

Going to send a message to Technical Supermarket to see what type of graphite they have in their R9 kilns that Nick had success with. If anyone else could weigh in, yeah, that'd be great.

Left crucible sounds like a rock when you tap it. One on the right is the dense one, sounds almost like glass. Think the glassy one might be a Silicon carbide graphite fused one.

Ideally I'd want a crucible at the size of the left one, but the material of the right one.

yes I too have settled on using a graphite crucible. I have already got mine and it looks very simple and easy to use. all I need now is dew to make my alkahest which I am currantly collecting.

I am also thinking of getting an iron ring for me to put on the top so it will push against the lid a seal it very well if I put something heavy on top of it.

would anyone be able to provide a link to to a graphite with a lid? I have looked and looked for one and all i can find is the ones without lids. except on one site, that has tons of them but is forty bucks for just the bottom and 10 or so for the lid. any info would be great! thanks!
