I need a crucible I can seal so that no gas may escape and cannot be made of metal and must be able to hold liquids. Porcelain is out. Any suggestions?

Where do you get those and how do you seal them?

I have tried graphite- I thought that might be what you meant Smile I suppose mine was not that dense and may have been unable to hold liquid. My main concern is sealing it so no gas may escape. I have unable to do this with Kaowool solution others have mentioned.

quartz is great but depending on what your using it for you can get away with something like this possibly:

Thanks Delphinny- I think the refractory one is the one that will solve my problem! I am going to try quartz too- here's a place in Arizona I found http://www.advaluetech.com/fused-quartz-crucibles.html#Fused-Quartz-High-Form-Crucible

no problem, make sure you use boric acid and not just plain old borax to season your crucible or it will leak. boric acid should give your crucible a nice "glaze" so it shouldn't leak. Anytime, Good Luck!! Smile

Thanks for the link to the Fuzed Quartz Crucibles! I have one of these in my shed somewhere but I think I've lost it now, their great ones if you can get them cheaply, problem is getting a fitting lid, best to buy a quartz round bottom flask and use a rubber stopper if you ever want to use it for distilling imo. what are you working on?
