Red Mercury

I've seen this recipe before. I actually have a picture from someone on this forum which shows a bright red liquid made by the same recipe. He mentioned something about it being able to transmute,and being able to be dried into a red stone.

His recipe used potassium hydroxide and a more modern heat source,but other than that the recipes are identical.

I don't think that this produces the actual philosopher's stone. The end result would almost certainly be deadly toxic,like liquid cinnabar.

If you want it to transmute, you might try dissolving gold or silver filings into the mercury before starting the process. That would be in agreement with the laws of nature. You cannot get flowers without a seed. This stone might also be more likely to transmute if you let the hydroxide adsorb moisture from the night air before starting. The dew has a tiny spark of pure life force,which could make your stone into a living one.

Sounds similar to Caro work, which uses cinnabar+KOH or Hg/S/KOH.

The difference here is we use NaOH, which suggests any alkali will do. Not sure what the dung cakes are for. Heat to activate? NH4Cl?

Can you explain more what the product does?

Dried dung has a reputation for smoldering for a very long time. Given how much of it the recipe calls for, I expect that the whole process takes hours of continual low heat. Electricity or gas heating is much easier to control. So using dung is a little obsolete,but it's plenty effective if you prefer an actual fire and happen to have it on hand.

Solarseeker, can you post the photo of the red liquid you refer to? I do not recall seeing anything like that on this forum.

Okay that is great and all, but what is red mercury?   This whole recipe is kind of pointless without an explanation as to what the product is...

I also want to point out, that the boiling point of a solution will differ depending on the quantity of solutes, especially if you add something with high solubility like KOH... so without starting quantities of water and KOH, the "three days" specification is utterly useless.
